Life may be unfair but for Malcolm in the Middle fans, things are looking up – the TV sitcom is back.
With familiar cries of “Malcolm!”, actors Bryan Cranston and Gene Kaczmarek showed off a video posted on social media announcing the show’s return on Friday.
They played the comically dysfunctional parents of the hyper-intelligent teenager who first appeared on our screens nearly 25 years ago.
The series ended in 2006 after 151 episodes, during which it won several Emmy Awards. A Grammy Award was also given to the band behind the show’s opening song Boss of Me, which ends with the lyric “Life’s Unfair.”
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for 18 years,” said Frankie Muniz, who reprises his role as the series’ hero. “Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now.”
Disney+ has commissioned four new episodes with a story built around Malcolm and his daughter’s return “to the family chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Louis (Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
Cranston, which received critical acclaim after the screening For his performance in the crime drama series Breaking BadHe said he was excited to be back.
Kaczmarek added: “What a pleasure it would be to scream at this kid again!
“We are so excited to get back together and see what this family has been doing.”
No date has yet been set for the new episodes to be broadcast.
Io Davis, president of Disney’s branded television unit, said she hopes fans will be happy with the new take on the series given how relatable it was when it first aired.
“His funny and honest portrayal of a lovable, chaotic family has resonated with audiences of all ages and we are so excited to welcome back the original cast to bring that magic to life once again.”
